- Long description
- Catena Zapata is the household name in Argentine Malbec — the bodega that proved high-altitude Mendoza Malbec could compete with anything in the world. The 2019 vintage is the sweet spot: black-fruit core, smooth tannins, the violet-floral lift Mendoza Malbec is famous for, and structure to hold up to a 45-day dry-aged tomahawk. Our house bottle. The wine our sommelier opens for guests who say 'pick something for me'.

Frequently asked questions
Why high-altitude Mendoza?
Catena's estate vineyards sit at 1,000-1,500m altitude in the Andean foothills. Cooler nights preserve acidity; intense sun develops flavour. Result: Malbec with both ripeness AND structure — wines that age 10+ years rather than peaking at 3.
Decanting necessary?
Strongly recommended for a 2019 — the wine is still young and tightly wound. 45 minutes in a decanter opens up the violet-floral aromas. Our sommelier handles it tableside.
Best pairing on our menu?
The 350g ribeye or the 1.2kg tomahawk. The tannin matches the marbled fat; the fruit lifts through the dry-age aromas. Not the right wine for tenderloin (too delicate) or fish (obviously).
Aging potential?
Drink now through 2034 — the 2019 vintage is built for 15 years' cellaring. We have older Catena vintages in the cellar; ask the sommelier about library bottles.
